YouTube Videos
Between 13th May 2011 and 9 Jul 2012, I created and posted videos on my own, small gaming YouTube channel.
It started off as just a bit of fun, releasing very similar types of content to others at the time, but it developed over the year. By the end, I had created 44 videos, gaining a total of 1.7 million views (at time of writing in Jan 2025). The huge majority of those views came from 2 Minecraft cinematic videos I directed and edited, but the other videos didn't do that badly either.
The channel acts as a time capsule for the types of things happening on the internet at that time. Dupstep, 5 second films, zero punctuation-style reviews, its all in there.
I gained ad revenue for these videos, except for the 28 Weeks Later video (my second best performing video) because it had copy righted audio in, and so I never turned on monetization for it. I have long since lost access to the accounts that will allow me to see how much I earned over the year, but I don't think it was much more than the cost of the additional hard drives I had to buy to store all the massive video clips I generated whilst creating this content.
